“Social media is not just an online hub or website! It’s all about sharing experiences!” said someone out there.

When someone asks how big social media is… it’s practically unmeasurable, because though it’s as small as a phone screen, it expands as large as across the whole world! See the irony?

That’s exactly how ironic the relationship between Gen Z and social media is! Let’s not dwell on the same old line that we’re all addicted to social media. It is a point, but let’s look past that. Every one of us at some point realize how toxic social media can become for us.

We gen Z either spend loads of time scrolling or posting on social media, or impulsively deciding on “taking time off of social media”

We are secretly or openly hung over how many likes we’re earning on our posts, and how many people are paying attention to us online. Our minds become so occupied by thoughts of socializing online, that we are almost losing track of reality!

It’s like you’re sitting in this car called life, you’re supposed to drive it but you look down at your phone and by the time you remember to look back up at the road, you miss out on the most beautiful views in the journey!

In this generation, FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) on social media is more than FOMO of reality…

Some of us realize this and decide to actually take time off of social media or even deactivate our accounts.

On the other side, there are people who know how to utilize social media for their career and not fall for its toxic lure.

You see, social media can either suck up your mind, make you anxious, make you crazy for attention, and even make you feel lost, looking for things you don’t have, OR it can give you a hand in journaling your thoughts, your creativity, your ideas, interests and passion, and achieving an interesting image for yourself online, as long as you’re not obsessed with attention.

We either love it overwhelmingly, or we hate it for ruining us. Love-Hate relationship it is indeed!

Let’s just try to work out how to utilize social media properly, not letting it kill the real you inside and making you cry for a life you don’t have ignoring what you have in front of you.

If you’re Gen Z, tell us about your take on social media today!
