Deepinder Goyal, the head of Zomato, recently decided to take a creative plunge and dress up as a delivery executive for a day in the quest of finding what really ails his team.
Goyal, in turn, shot a video of his encounter that went viral for all the right purposes, even capturing the unfortunate moments, such as his entry into a Gurugram mall. Where he was not allowed to take an elevator for deliveries, he was made to take the stairs instead.
This episode showed how poorly delivery men were treated which led to gaping mouths over the need to talk about the condition of gig economy workers occupying reproachful places like malls.
Goyal’s hands-on action did more than just raising awareness, it was also a treasure trove of information he could use to better Zomato’s delivery system. His efforts show a desire to improve the working conditions of the delivery partners to nurture compassion rather than hostility towards the companies who hire their services.
