Have you heard of those famous ads that created a huge leap in the brand’s growth? The brands that got their names printed in everyone’s brains and now people remember them only as that image?

Advertising has the power to transform a brand’s image, put it into public knowledge, and significantly boost its growth. Let us discuss some of the biggest brand-boosting ads:

Old Spice – “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like”:

You remember a man doing constantly unexpected things on which your brain stopped braining?

The Old Spice campaign aired in 2010 and featured actor Isaiah Mustafa delivering monologues in various masculine settings. Wieden + Kennedy created this masterpiece targeting men using women’s body wash brought by their partners. This positioned Old Spice as the scent of a confident, desirable man.

The campaign rejuvenated the Old Spice brand, resulting in a 125% rise in sales in just a month. The catchy catchphrases and Mustafa’s attractive performance drove the ads to viral status, proving the power of comedy and appealing content in advertising.

Nike – “Dream Crazy”

“It’s only crazy until you do it,” is the line the ad ends with. Colin Kaepernick narrates us through the lives of those who were never expected to be successful. It means to believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.

Campaign released in 2018 under the direction of Wieden+Kennedy as a part of Nike’s 30th anniversary of the “Just Do It” slogan.

The advertising triggered intense discussion and debate. Social media exploded with reactions, with the hashtag #JustDoIt trending globally. Within days after the advertisement’s publication, online sales reportedly increased by 31%.

Burger King – “Whopper Detour”:

The rivalry between Burger King and McDonald’s is known to everyone. It heats up every time any one brand makes a bigger move. This campaign was done when BK launched its mobile app for the first time.

The advertisement gave following instructions:
Step 1: Download the BK app
Step 2: Drive to the McDonald’s (Notification pops whenever near 600m)
Step 3: Order a Whopper sandwich for 1 cent
Step 4: Pick it up at the nearest Burger King

The campaign first made the customers to reach McDonald’s making them unable to serve Whopper sandwich due to unavailability. The employees then “detour” the customers to the nearest Burger Company.

This 2018 campaign boosted the app downloads to cross 1.5 million. The traffic increased at  McDonald’s but not as much as burger king for the 1cent sandwich.

Overall, These legendary advertisements show the transforming impact of creative, well-executed marketing methods. These brands achieved significant development while also leaving a lasting legacy in the advertising world by maximizing on cultural moments, emotions, and customer habits. Whether via humor, emotional appeal, or unique narrative, these ads have demonstrated that effective advertising can make a brand memorable.
